PASTEL

Rather than echoing the creamy tones of the ice-cream parlour, these are not too sweet, but have a clear freshness in colour of the sorbets. Pastels are often thought too feminine, but many retro appliances and accessories available now are in shades of pastel, or go for a touch of vintage. They fit very well into white spacial areas. Small doses of pastel in accent pieces such as curtains, cushions, throws, crockery or just a feature wall, have a comforting effect without overpowering a clean spacial area.

MONOCHROME:

The simple combination of a black and white lets you go bold with pattern, whilst keeping that clean and crisp image. This limited colour palette of two very precise opposites in colour can be more powerful than any number of colour combinations. It emphasises both pattern and form. In 2013 our interiors are going to be full of monochrome with vibrant designs.

THE NEW OMBRE

Ombre is one of the most popular reoccurring trends in fashion and interiors. It adds a certain type of drama to any decor, whether subtle, or a more dramatic contrast with its strength of tones. I feel the new Ombre is more sophisticated this time around. New exciting ombre wallpapers by companies like Rockett St George, replace the time consuming paint washes of the past!

Ombre is a french word, meaning to shade. In fashion, it really describes the "dip- dye"effect given to fabric where shades of colour graduate from light to dark. Surprisingly the Ombre effect was achieved first in paper printing, and in the 1800's the Alsatian company Zuber became famous for its ombre prints. It was soon applied to block printed textiles, but was difficult, time consuming and very expensive to reproduce, so died out by the late 19th century.

But today after years of popularity in the fashion industry, its back where it started in the home, enhancing our interiors.

Florals still have that "WOW" factor, whether in fashion or interiors. As a British company we reflect the British taste. Our home interiors are an extension of our gardens and visa-versa. From the traditional english rose and peony to the tropical holiday influences of the palms and hibiscus flowers. There are always new ways to use the floral whether hand painted or digital. Whether it's a cushion, lampshade or a statement piece of wall decor, it seems we just can't get enough of them. They just bring that decorative, fresh, uplifting, almost personal element to the geometric structure of a room, softening those large flat areas of colour.
